12/24/2023 0 Comments Def leppard on through the nightWith regards to the band’s 1980 debut album ‘On Through The Night’, this is never more obvious than on ‘Hello America’, a track drenched in harmony vocals and tinkling synthesizers. Although a lot of this signature sound is down to Lange’s mastery of the studio, the band had a strong focus on melody and vocal harmony right from the beginning. With these two albums, (over)produced by the legendary Mutt Lange, Def Leppard perfected their signature brand of soft metal with big hooks and even bigger harmonies. The latter is one of the biggest selling rock albums of all time. While assembling this entire list was very difficult, putting this blockbuster at number one was the easiest part of the process.Def Leppard’s third and fourth albums – 1983’s ‘Pyromania’ and 1987’s ‘Hysteria’ – are two of the biggest selling rock albums of the 1980s. And if the Bad Boys from Boston care about superlatives, “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” tops this Best Power Ballads list. As if that weren’t enough, the song was a number one song in nine other countries. It would top the Billboard Hot 100 chart for four weeks and is Aerosmith’s lone number one hit in the United States. “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” was seemingly everywhere. In 1998, there was truly no escaping this song. Written by Diane Warren, the track boasts a string section and one of Steven Tyler’s greatest screams ever recorded. “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” wasn’t Aerosmith’s first power ballad, but it’s the band’s biggest both sonically and commercially. With that considered, being the theme to 1998’s Armageddon, a film about an asteroid threatening to destroy Earth is about as over-the-top as it gets. Power ballads are traditionally based around grandness. Just a little something to think about friends.” He added, “So out of all the attorneys/ accountants manager we’ve had do you think just one of them could have taken care of business and protected the band out of the hundreds of thousands of dollars we spent throughout the years? I’m going to take a ‘wild guess’ and say that they all knew the differences between song writing / copyright and ultimately the ‘Trade Marks’ to everything. Bottom line all these years have gone by then I found out our music wasn’t even trademarked nor the name until 2005 and I trademarked the rest of everything in 2020.” We did sign but I will say under duress and not having any time for any other legal to look at it. Herbie claimed he didn’t know what else to do… so he suggested we sign. We had played the first two then our Manager Herbie came to us stating Steve Perry was not going to go on without us signing. Schon continued, “Also the Elmo Perry was forced upon us all to sign that he and his attorney had drawn up 10min before we were to go on in Hawaii at a string of five sold out shows Neal Blaisdell Center. Smith voted himself in as president- Ross voted himself in as Secretary and they all through myself under the bus as well as, but Jon had initially called the board meeting.” His voice was heard by myself and all that attended voting me off the Board and voting Ross whom he fired and Smith who he fired as well as Herbie. So, it’s not true that he was only there through proxy. He (was present) at the board of directors meeting as no one thought I was there but while being represented by my Attorney ….I was there listening on the line. In his latest social media rant, Schon wrote, “31 years later when he left for the ‘Last Time’ as there were many before that. Following the news of Perry’s petition, Schon took to Facebook and alleged Perry was involved in an attempted takeover of Nightmare Productions, Inc., one of Journey's corporate entities along with bassist Ross Valory, drummer Steve Smith, and former Journey manager Herbie Herbert
